Drayton Nets Career-High 34 Points in 103-78 loss to No. 4 West Liberty

BOWIE, Md. -- Senior Quinton Drayton (Bowie, MD) scored 34 points, but the Bowie State men's basketball team fell to the No. 4 West Liberty Hilltoppers 103-78 at home Saturday inside A.C. Jordan Arena.

Behind Draytons 34 points, the Bulldogs (4-11) also got double figure scoring from freshman Amare Wimbush (Landover, MD) tacked on 13 points off of the bench and junior Joel Webb (Forestville, MD) added nine points and six rebounds.

Led by Webb's four offensive rebounds, Bowie State crashed the offensive glass, pulling down 17 boards that resulted in 14 second chance points.

How It Happened

Bowie State struggled out of the gate, falling behind 52-36 heading into halftime.

No. 4 West Liberty (11-1) kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing an 81-51 advantage before the Bulldogs went on a 7-0 run, finished off by Drayton's three, to shrink the deficit to 81-58 with 9:01 to go in the contest. The Hilltoppers responded and outscored the Bulldogs the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 103-78. BSU got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 14 of its 42 total points.

» The Bulldogs shot well from three point range, knocking down five of 11 long range attempts.
» Drayton and Wimbush carried the load for the Bulldogs, accounting for 60 percent their points.
» Bowie State cleaned up on the offensive glass, collecting 17 offensive boards in the game.
» Drayton led the Bulldogs with a game-high 34 points.
» BSU got a team-high six rebounds from Webb.
