ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – The Bowie State women's basketball team dropped a 68-50 decision at Elizabeth City State (19-6, 11-5 CIAA) Saturday afternoon in their regular season finale at the R.L. Vaughan Center.
The Black and Gold posted a 17-14 advantage in the first quarter behind play from senior
Amani Ball (Laurel, MD) and freshman
Andria Gadson (Bowie, MD) who both had five and four points, respectively.
The Bulldogs gave up their lead in the second as ECSU grew a 12-2 run that later increased its advantage by double digits at halftime (37-10). The Lady Vikings expanded their lead to 22 after outscoring Bowie State 22-10 in the third quarter but despite the deficit, BSU posted a 13-9 margin in the fourth. However, the closest the Bulldogs would get to ECSU was 16 points for the remainder of the contest.
Graduate senior
Talanya Hutton (Seat Pleasant, MD) tallied a team-high 13 points and three rebounds while Ball notched 12 points and five rebounds. Senior
Drew Calhoun (New Carrollton, MD) charted a team-high six rebounds to go along with six points in the effort.
Bowie State (12-10) will now wait for the official tournament bracket to be released for the 2022 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Basketball Tournament which will be held in Baltimore, Md., from Feb. 22-26 at the Royal Farms Arena. The Bulldogs are likely to be the No. 3 seed in the North with a 10-6 record in conference play.
