Bowie State Travels to Howard for Midweek Action

BOWIE, Md. – Bowie State softball will travel to Washington, D.C. for a doubleheader with the Bison's of Howard University Wednesday, Mar. 2 at 3 p.m. from the Nationals Youth Academy.

Wednesday's doubleheader will mark the seventh meeting between Bowie State and Howard. Both teams have split series (3-3) since the first meeting in 2006. However, Howard has won the last three outings against the Bulldogs, including 10-0 and 11-0 victories in 2021.

Bowie State is 4-2-1 overall, coming off a tie with Miles (7-7) during the final game of the CIAA/SIAC Challenge back on Feb. 20 in Atlanta, Ga. The Bulldogs went 2-2-1 overall at the challenge, earning wins against Clark Atlanta (13-4), and Fort Valley State (6-3).

Howard stands 3-9 overall; having lost its last five games entering Wednesday's twin bill, including an 8-0 defeat by Kent State on Feb. 26 during the Campbell Stampede. HU is 2-2 at home this season. Leading the Bison offense has been Luz Aguilasocho (.444 batting average), Alyssa Vasquez (.343) and Camille Navarro (.316). Howard's top hurler is Sydney Hixenbaugh with an ERA of 4.20 with one win on the year.

Following Wednesday games, Bowie State will host home contests Saturday and Sunday against Bloomsburg and Mansfield at 1 p.m. at the BSU Softball Field.
