BOWIE, Md. – Bowie State softball will continue non-conference action on Saturday, Apr. 16 when the Bulldogs travel to Salem, WV to face the Tigers of Salem University at Hope Field with game times set for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

The doubleheader will mark just the second time Bowie State and Salem will meet on the field. The Bulldogs fell 3-1 in 2016 to the Tigers in Salem, Va.

The Bulldogs (14-18-1) are coming off a pair of losses against Shippensburg last time out. Offensively, BSU could not find a rhythm, combining for just five total hits in both games. Bowie State currently stands 7-13-1 against non-conference opponents this year.

Freshman Saniya Jones (Louisa, VA) has the highest batting average (.402) with seven home runs, and five doubles while freshman Alyssa Cloutier (Derwood, MD) follows with a batting clip of .400 and a team-high 38 runs scored. The Bulldogs have used five different pitchers this season with graduate senior Evelyn Buehlman (Ellicott City, MD) leading the way with 78.1 innings pitched and 63 strikeouts. She has an ERA mark of 7.81 and is 7-7 in the circle.

Salem (10-24) has lost its last three outings, including 4-11 and 1-6 losses to Alderson Broaddus on Apr. 12. The Tigers are 3-11 at home this season, averaging .275 at the plate this year while their opponents have combined for .699.

Elaina Esteban is the team's leading batter (.440), 48 hits and 14 RBI while Arianna Arroyo has seen the most action in the circle with a 4-11 record and a 10.20 ERA. She has pitched 60 innings and struck out 41 total batters.
