Bowie State Softball and Millersville to Meet Wednesday for Doubleheader

BOWIE, Md. – Bowie State will host Millersville University on Wednesday, Apr. 20 for a doubleheader beginning at 2:30 p.m., in non-conference softball action at the BSU Softball Field.

These two teams met last season with Millersville sweeping Bowie State, 9-1 and 3-0 on Apr. 7, 2021 in Millersville, Pa. Wednesday's doubleheader will mark the 25th and 26th meeting between the team teams as the Marauders have won the last nine of 10 outings. The Bulldogs are 0-8 against Millersville at home.

The Marauders are 6-7 on the road this season. During their last outing, Millersville split with Lock Haven 9-1, 1-5 on Saturday (Apr. 16). Three players are batting over .300 on the Marauders roster led by Gabby D'Ottavio with a batting clip of .372 while Aleese Angelo and Sam Fried follow with .357 and .320, respectively.

The pitching duties for Millersville have been split between Alex Schaefer and Morgan Crutcher as they both combine for a 16-13 win-loss record. Schaefer has the best ERA rating of the two at 3.53 and 57 strikeouts. Defensively, Gabi Tuner has 199 putouts and 16 assists for a fielding percentage of .986.

BSU went 2-2 last week, capping off the stretch with a pair of road wins at Salem Saturday (Apr. 16). Freshman Saniya Jones (Louisa, VA) leads the offense for the Bulldogs with a batting average of .402 – she was named this week's conference rookie of the week announced by the league office Monday. Three more Bulldogs post a batting clip of at least .370 featuring freshman Alyssa Cloutier (Derwood, MD) at .388, graduate senior Aseyah Alexander (Silver Springs, MD) (.378) and graduate senior Evvie Buehlman (Ellicott City, MD) (.374).

Buehlman is 8-7 so far on the season with an ERA 7.49 to lead the pitching unit for Bowie State while defensively, freshman Brittany Brewer (Savage, MD) has recorded 177 putouts, six assists and a fielding percentage of .984 mostly at the first baseman position.

Following Wednesday's doubleheader, Bowie State will return to conference action on Saturday and Sunday with home series against Shaw (4/23) and Elizabeth City State (4/24). Both games will begin at 1 p.m. on each day.
