Saturday's game marks the 23rd and 24th meeting between Bowie State and Shaw. The Bulldogs lead the all-time series (14-8) against the Lady Bears. Bowie State is 8-0 at home against SU and 10-4 in league action all-time. In the last 10 matchups, both teams split at 5-5 but Shaw has won the last two outings against BSU, taking a 9-5 and 5-3 victory in Raleigh, N.C. during the 2020 season.
The Bulldogs are coming off an impressive doubleheader sweep over Millersville Wednesday. The 3-0 victory and 5-4 win over the Marauders were the first time Bowie State ever swept Millersville. Previously, BSU had lost nine of the last 10 matchups versus the Marauders. Prior to Wednesday's doubleheader, Millersville held a 23-1 all-time record against the Bulldogs and BSU had never beaten the Marauders at home.
Bowie State has won its last four games entering Saturday's competition.
Evvie Buehlman (Ellicott City, MD) leads the Bulldogs with a batting average of .381 while
Saniya Jones (Louisa, VA) and
Alyssa Cloutier (Derwood, MD) continue to get better as the season progresses with batting clips of .380, respectively. Cloutier leads the team in stolen bases with 31 on 33 attempts while Jones is the team's leader in home runs with seven on the year.
Buehlman is 9-7 so far on the season with an ERA 7.09 to lead the pitching unit for Bowie State while defensively, freshman
Brittany Brewer (Savage, MD) has recorded 187 putouts, seven assists and a fielding percentage of .985 mostly at the first baseman position.
Shaw is 2-22 overall and 1-10 in league action this season, returning as members of the CIAA Northern Division for the first time since the early 2000's. The Lady Bears are 0-6 on the road this season, coming off a pair of losses to Elizabeth City State, 14-2 and 9-2. SU is last in the Northern Division (0-6). Mercedes Hargett leads the Lady Bears in her first season.
Following Saturday's doubleheader, Bowie State will continue conference action on Sunday with home series against Elizabeth City State. The doubleheader will start at 1 p.m.
