Box Score BOWIE, Md. – The No. 3 seeded Bowie State softball team extended its win streak to nine consecutive games with a 12-4 victory over the sixth seeded Elizabeth City State (11-17) Lady Vikings Tuesday. The Bulldogs scored five runs in the sixth to take the contest 12-4 in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Quarterfinal round at the BSU Softball Field.
With the win, the Bulldogs will head to the semifinal round on Friday, May 5, which will be held at RF&P Park in Glen Allen, Va. Bowie State will face the winner of No. 2 Virginia State and No. 7 Virginia Union at 12:30 p.m. The championship game will be on May 6. First pitch for the championship round is tentatively slated for 2 p.m. on Saturday.
The Bulldogs (23-18-1) combined for 17 total hits; including 10 RBIs led by All-CIAA and senior Shanya Gordon (Elkridge, MD) who went 3-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored. Graduate senior and this year's CIAA Player of the Year Evelyn Buehlman (Ellicott City, MD) went 2-4 highlighted by a home run in the fourth inning and two RBIs while also earning her 12th win in the circle, tossing four strikeouts in six innings of work.
ECSU got out to a 1-0 lead after the first inning but Bowie State rallied in the second, scoring four runs that featured a double from Gordon and two RBIs. Graduate senior Aseyah Alexander (Silver Springs, MD) tallied one of her three RBIs when she singled to left field that allowed freshman Kayla Evans (Bridgeville, DE) to come home.
With a 4-1 lead through three innings, the Bulldogs added two more in the fourth when freshman and the CIAA Rookie of the Year Alyssa Cloutier (Derwood, MD) stole home, followed by Buehlman's homer.
BSU accounted for a pair of errors in the fifth that led to the Lady Vikings scoring three unearned runs to pull within two (6-4) heading into the bottom of the inning but the Bulldogs scored one run on a fielder's choice that permitted freshman Morgan Joseph (Flanders, NJ) to come home.
Bowie State held ECSU scoreless in the sixth and was able to rack up six total hits from four different Bulldogs while tacking on five runs highlighted by a triple and two RBIs from freshman Aliyah Smith (Stafford, VA).
