This will be the third time Bowie State and Virginia State meet this season. The Trojans swept the Bulldogs 8-3 and 8-0 back on Apr. 10 in Petersburg, Va. The setbacks snapped a mini win-streak for BSU but the Bulldogs hold the all-time series against VSU with a 14-13 record since 2009.
Bowie State made it to the semifinals with a convincing 12-4 win against Elizabeth City State on Tuesday. The victory extended the Bulldogs win-streak to nine consecutive games. BSU scored five runs in the sixth to take the contest in the CIAA Quarterfinal round at the BSU Softball Field.
The Bulldogs (23-18-1) combined for 17 total hits; including 10 RBIs led by All-CIAA and senior Shanya Gordon (Elkridge, MD) who went 3-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored. Graduate senior and this year's CIAA Player of the Year Evelyn Buehlman (Ellicott City, MD) went 2-4 highlighted by a home run in the fourth inning and two RBIs while also earning her 12th win in the circle, tossing four strikeouts in six innings of work.
For Virginia State, the Trojans split with Virginia Union during the quarterfinal. As the No. 2 seed overall, VSU suffered a 4-3 setback in the opening game but was able to rally back for a 10-2 win in game two that allowed them to move on to the next round.
