Jayla Irvin and
Katerra Myers of Bowie State women's basketball earned Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Women's Basketball Weekly honors announced Tuesday afternoon. Irvin was named this week's CIAA Player of the Week and Myers tabbed Defensive Player of the Week, both are firsts this season for Irvin and Myers.
Irvin led the Bulldogs in scoring in each of their two wins last week, averaging 17.5 points and 5.5 rebounds in victories over Virginia State and Shaw, the junior had a game-high 22 points versus the Trojans and 17 off the bench against the Bears. The Alexandria, Va., native added four boards, two steals, and an assist in the Virginia State game and tallied six rebounds and a steal against Shaw.
As for Myers, the Burtonsville, Md., native was part of a Bowie State defense that held VSU to 47 points and the Lady Bears to 60 points last week. On the road against SU in a 64-60 overtime win, the redshirt sophomore had 11 rebounds and a steal with four points and three assists. Additionally, Myers had five boards and a steal versus the Trojans.
