Bulldogs Close Out CIAA Round-Up I, Falls to Shaw in Three-Straight Sets

PETERSBURG, VA -- The Bowie State women's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 sweep by the hands of Shaw Sunday at Multipurpose Center to conclude the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Round-Up. The Bulldogs fell in straight sets (11-25, 14-25, 23-25), dipping to 0-5 in league action and 2-16 overall.

Bowie State was paced by Kiera Brothers who tallied a season-high 10 kills as the Bulldogs combined for just 17 total for the match while defensively, Haley Pelham finished with 10 digs to go along with 15 assists.

» Pelham posted team-highs in assist (15) and digs (10).
» BSU recorded a hitting percentage of .010 for the match.
» Bowie State was outscored 55-21 in points.
 

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Bulldogs found themselves in an early hole, losing a tough first set 25-11. BSU trailed by as many as 13 points as Shaw secured the win on a miscue and a kill from Lauren Janok. 

SET 2 | After a 3-3 tie, the Lady Bears went on a 22-11 advantage over Bowie State in route to the 25-14 set win and 2-0 lead in the match. 

SET 3 | The Bulldogs held a 8-3 lead to begin the third set, forcing Shaw to call a timeout. BSU maintained the lead until the Lady Bears went on a 16-11 ratio to tie the set at 19-all but the Lady Bears would own a 6-4 scoring margin and 25-23 set win and 3-0 sweep.

Looking Ahead
Bowie State will remain on the road on Oct. 5 and Oct. 9 when the Bulldogs visit Elizabeth City State and Virginia Union for 6 p.m. starts in division action.
