PETERSBURG, VA -- Nina Edwards tallied 15 kills with a .52 hitting percentage, but the Bowie State women's volleyball team fell 3-2 (19-25, 25-20, 16-25, 25-15, 11-15) to the Johnson C. Smith Golden Bulls Sunday at Multipurpose Center.
The loss dropped Bowie State's record to 2-14 overall and 0-4 in CIAA action.The Bulldogs offense was paced by Edwards, who finished with 15 kills on the day while accumulating a hitting percentage of .52, and by Madyson Brinson, who had 14. Defensively, BSU had two players reach double figures in digs as Tristynn Kerr (28) and Iman Wright (15).

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Bulldogs found themselves in an early hole, losing a tough first set 25-19. BSU trailed by as many as six points as Johnson C. Smith grabbed the advantage for good at 19-18 in a set that was tied up four times before the Golden Bulls took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 2 | BSU evened the match at 1-1 following a 25-20 victory in the second set. The Bulldogs never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 8-7 in a set that showcased two lead changes before Bowie State took over the lead. The Bulldogs offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.
SET 3 | JCSU took a 2-1 match lead after taking down the Bulldogs in the third set. BSU fell in a tough set 25-16. Bowie State trailed by as many as nine points as Johnson C. Smith grabbed the advantage for good at 8-7 in a set that was tied up five times before the Golden Bulls took over the lead.
SET 4 | BSU then responded to secure set four 25-15 to force a fifth set. The Bulldogs led from the first point on in the set to secure the victory. Bowie State opened up as much as an 11 point lead at 20-9 before finishing off the stanza. Bowie State also supplemented their offense with four aces in the set.
SET 5 | Bowie State was on the wrong side of a back-and-forth match, winning the second and fourth sets, but dropping the first, third and fifth, which they dropped by the score of 15-11, to fall in the match. The Bulldogs dropped the first point and never clawed back into the lead.

Bowie State will remain on the road on Oct. 5 and Oct. 9 when the Bulldogs visit Elizabeth City State and Virginia Union for 6 p.m. starts in division action.
