Bulldogs Falls to Virginia Union, 52-3

RICHMOND, VA -- The Bowie State football team fell 52-3 to the Virginia Union Panthers on the road Saturday afternoon at Hovey Stadium in division action. 

The Panthers improved to 6-1 on the year and 4-1 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play, while the Bulldogs fell to 3-4 overall and 2-3 in conference matchups.

Corey Johnson led all Bulldogs rushers with 80 yards in the contest. Keshane Hinckley also added eight yards on the ground. The most prolific target for Bowie State quarterbacks was James McNeill, III who caught two passes for 23 yards. Mychale Salahuddin led the Bowie State defensive effort, totaling one interception while Tyshawn Blow added 1.0 TFL and one sack.

Defensively, Bowie State held up fairly well against the Virginia Union passing attack, holding the Panthers to 159 yards through the air.

How It Happened
After Virginia Union opened a 14-0 lead, Bowie State scored with 8:58 remaining in the second quarter to narrow the margin to 14-3. BSU didn't score again in the game and Panthers added 38 more points to finish off the scoring.

The Bulldogs will remain on the road to travel to Bluefield, WV to take on Bluefield State on Saturday, Oct. 21. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. from Mitchell Stadium.
