Women’s Volleyball to Host Bluefield State Thursday

BOWIE, MD – Bowie State women's volleyball team will recommence Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Northern Division play against Bluefield State on Thursday, Oct. 19 when the Bulldogs host the Big Blue's inside A.C. Jordan Arena at 6 p.m.

CIAA Round Up II
This past weekend the Bulldogs concluded CIAA Round Up II in which they lost to three Southern Divisional teams that included; St. Augustine's (6-10), Fayetteville State (12-10) and Claflin (6-10). BSU suffered a 3-1 decision to the Lady Falcons and Lady Broncos while the Lady Panthers earned the 3-0 sweep over Bowie State at the R.L. Vaughan Center.
 
The Series
Thursday's meeting will be the first-ever between both Bluefield State and Bowie State.
 
Young But Improving
Despite the 2-22 record and 0-10 mark in the CIAA, the Bulldogs have steadily improved with a roster that features 13 freshmen in addition to two returners from 2022 that are currently sophomores. In fact, 7-of-10 conference matchups, Bowie State has either went the distance of five sets or has won a set against conference foes. 
 
Return to A.C. Jordan Arena
The Bulldogs will return to A.C. Jordan for the first time since Sept. 25 when Bowie State hosted Virginia State. Thursday's tilt will mark just the fourth home match for the Bulldogs in 2023. BSU is 1-2 at home this season.
 
A Look At The Opponent 
Bluefield State is currently 11-13 on the season and 8-2 in the league coming off a pair of wins at the CIAA Round-Up II over the weekend. The Big Blue's took on Fayetteville State, falling 3-2, followed by two straight wins that featured a 3-2 win over St. Augustine's and 3-0 victory against Claflin. Collectively, B-State is fifth in the league for points, averaging 14.14 and a hitting percentage of .142 while allowing its opponents to average 11.0 kills per set and a hitting clip of .177. The Big Blue's statistical leaders feature Jannice Lynch with 210 kills, Kateryna Dashevska with 684 assists, 39 service aces and 242 digs while Imani Stokes has a team-high 63 blocks.

Bowie State will remain home to host Elizabeth City State on Monday, Oct. 23. The first serve is set for 6 p.m. inside A.C. Jordan Arena.
