Bulldogs Stumble in 4-Set Match at Virginia Union

RICHMOND, VA --The Bowie State women's volleyball team stumbled to the Virginia Union Lady Panthers in four sets (17-25, 16-25, 25-21, 22-25) Monday on the road at Barco-Stevens Hall.

The loss dropped Bowie State's record to 2-18 overall and 0-7 in CIAA play.

The Bulldogs were led by a double-double from Iman Wright, who registered 12 kills and 10 digs on the day. Nina Edwards also added 12 kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Bracey Gross chipped in 19 digs to go with two blocks from Nadira Avery.

» Tristynn Kerr had a team-high two aces in the loss.
» Wright registered a double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs
» BSU served up five aces on the way to a third-set victory.
» Wright had a team-high 12 kills for Bowie State.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Bulldogs fell behind early, losing a tough first set 25-17. Bowie State trailed by as many as eight points as Virginia Union never surrendered the lead in a set that was tied up just once before the Lady Panthers took control.

SET 2 | BSU fell in set two 25-16, digging a 2-0 deficit in the match. Bowie State trailed by as many as 11 points as VUU grabbed the advantage for good at 3-2 in a set that was tied up two times before the Lady Panthers took over the lead.

SET 3 | Bowie State stayed alive after a win in set three to make it a 2-1 match. Strong serving helped the Bulldogs win the set 25-21. BSU totaled five aces in the win. The Bulldogs opened up a 19-10 lead in the stanza and coasted to victory from there. The Bowie State offense also got a boost from five aces in the stanza.

SET 4 | BSU couldn't build off the set-three victory and fell in the fourth set 25-22 to drop the match. Virginia Union grabbed the advantage for good at 21-20 and Bowie State was never able to recover in a set that was knotted up 10 times before the Lady Panthers took over in the second half of the stanza.
