Bulldogs Drop 4-Set Match to Bluefield State

BLUEFIELD, WV -- The Bowie State volleyball team fell to the Bluefield State Lady Blues in four sets (10-25, 25-19, 21-25, 16-25) Thursday on the road at Ned Shott Gymnasium.

The loss dropped Bowie State's (1-6 North) record to 3-25 overall and 1-13 in CIAA play. B-State improves to 14-15 overall, 11-4 in the CIAA and 6-2 in the Northern Division.

Nina Edwards finished with nine kills on the day to lead the Bulldogs offense while finishing with a hitting percentage of .294. Tristynn Kerr finished with 10 digs to lead them defensively.

Game Notes
» Kerr had a team-high four aces in the loss.
» Edwards had a team-high nine kills for Bowie State.
» BSU got a match-high 10 digs from Kerr.
» Bowie State attackers were helped by a team-high 29 assists from Mekenna Scott.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Bulldogs found themselves in an early deficit, dropping a tough first set 25-10. BSU trailed by as many as 15 points as Bluefield State never gave up the lead in a set that was tied up zero times before the Lady Blues took control.

SET 2 | Bowie State responded to pick up a 25-19 victory in set two, evening the match at one set apiece. The Bulldogs never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 18-17 in a set that showcased three lead changes before Bowie State took over in the second half of the stanza. BSU offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.

SET 3 | B-State went ahead 2-1 in the match after taking down the Bulldogs in the third set. The Bulldogs came up short by the score of 25-21. Bluefield State grabbed the advantage for good at 19-18 in a set that was tied up five times before the Lady Blues took over in the second half of the stanza.

SET 4 | BSU then lost the fourth set 25-16 to finish off the match. The Bulldogs trailed by as many as 10 points as B-State grabbed the advantage for good at 5-4 and Bowie State wasn't able to recover in a set that was knotted up four times before the Lady Blues took over.
