BOWIE, MD --- As part of a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) doubleheader, the Bulldogs men's basketball team will host the Rams of Winston-Salem State on Thursday, Dec. 14 at 7:30 p.m. in cross division action. The game will air live on the Bulldog Sports Network with Evan Johnson and Jayden Clyne on the call. The doubleheader will be the first of seven for Bowie State men's and women's basketball for the 2023-24 season.

The Bowie State men's basketball team got a 36-point performance from the bench, but fell 88-73 to the George Washington Revolutionaries (9-2) on the road Tuesday night in an exhibition contest. The Bulldogs (4-5, 0-1 CIAA) had four players score in double figures, led by
Caleb Johnson, who had 16 points, five assists and two steals.
Kyree Freeman-Davis tacked on 13 points off the bench and
Mark Bradshaw chipped in as well with 11 points and three steals off the bench. Led by
Jimmy Sorunke's two offensive rebounds, BSU pulled down 11 boards that resulted in seven second chance points.
BSU forced 15 George Washington turnovers while committing 11 themselves in the contest. The Bulldogs turned those takeaways into 16 points on the offensive end of the floor. Bradshaw's three steals led the way for Bowie State.

Caleb Johnson (13.0 ppg) and
Mark Bradshaw (11.7 ppg), Johnson is the team's top ball handler dishing out 5.0 assist per game (3rd in CIAA) and has the top shooting percentage at 40-percent from the field. Meanwhile Bradshaw is the Bulldogs top 3-point shooter with 21 made and shooting percentage of 30-percent.
Joel Webb posts a team-high 6.6 rebounds and .7 blocks, defensively for BSU.
Scouting the Rams
Winston-Salem State (7-3, 1-0 CIAA) have won its last two outings, including a 71-67 over Clarion on Dec. 10. Prior to the win over the Golden Eagles, WSSU had defeated Bluefield State, 82-71 which was their first conference win of the season. Through 10 games, the Rams average 71 points which is ranked ninth in the CIAA while they have the leagues second best defense, holding its opponents to 67.4 points, respectively. A notable stat line for WSSU is that the team leads the CIAA in team rebounds (39.8) but 12th in the league for team free throw percentage (59-percent). Jaylen Alston is the team's leading scorer and rebounder, averaging 17.7 points and 8.1 rebounds per outing with both ranking fifth and first in the league.
