Bulldogs Cap Regular Season Finale with 62-44 Win over Lincoln (PA)

BOWIE, MD -- The Bowie State women's basketball team went into the half tied with Lincoln (PA) 25-25, but took control in the second half to defeat the Lady Lions (18-8, 12-4 CIAA, 7-3 North) 62-44 at home Saturday in its regular season finale inside A.C. Jordan Arena.

The Bulldogs (14-11, 10-6 CIAA, 6-4 North) had two players score in double figures, led by sophomore Anii Harris, who had 21 points and two steals. Redshirt sophomore Katerra Myers added 17 points and eight rebounds and junior Seanice Lyons added six points and seven rebounds.

Myers pulled down four offensive rebounds to pace an offense that racked up second chance opportunities for Bowie State, grabbing 10 boards and turning them into 12 second chance points.

Bowie State's defense held Lincoln (PA) to only 26.7-percent shooting from the field, including 23.1-percent from beyond the arc. The Bulldogs also limited D'Ayzha Atkinson to 3-of-14 shooting and six points in the game.

How It Happened
After jumping out to a 7-4 advantage, Bowie State went on a 6-0 run with 3:32 left in the first quarter to increase its lead to 13-4. The Bulldogs then added two points to that lead by the end of the period and entered the quarter break with a 17-6 advantage. Bowie State did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring 12 of its 17 points close to the basket.

Bowie State kept its first quarter lead intact before going on a 6-0 run starting at the 9:29 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Harris, to increase its lead to 23-6. The Lions then battled back to even it up at 25-25 heading into halftime.

After intermission, the Bulldogs jumped out to a 37-35 lead before going on a 7-0 run to expand its lead further to 44-35 with 1:29 to go in the third, a score which remained until the end of the third quarter. Bowie State played well near the basket, scoring 12 of its 19 points in the paint.

BSU kept widening that lead, expanding it to 56-43 before going on a 6-0 run, finished off by sophomore Saniha Jackson's layup, to grow the lead to 62-43 with 19 seconds to go in the contest. The Lions narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Bulldogs still cruised the rest of the way for the 62-44 win.

» Harris and Myers carried the load for the Bulldogs, accounting for 61-percent their points.
» Bowie State had a 42-35 edge on the boards in the win.
» Bowie State cleaned up on the offensive glass, collecting 10 offensive boards in the game.
» Harris led the Bulldogs with a game-high 21 points.
» Bowie State got a team-high nine rebounds from sophomore Jackson.
