BOWIE, Md. – Bowie State women's basketball will host Greek/Alumni Takeover against Shaw University in a Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Northern Division matchup on Saturday, Feb. 4. Tipoff for the women's game is at 12 noon, from A.C. Jordan Arena.

The Series
Since 2009, Bowie State holds a slight advantage of 16-15 all-time record against Virginia Union. The longest win streak for the Bulldogs over the Lady Panthers was eight games from 2009-2012 while the longest losing skid for BSU against VUU was from 2015-2018. Last season, both teams split the regular season's series with Bowie State taking the first meeting, 65-56 on Jan. 19, 2022 while VUU sought revenge on Feb. 10, 2022 with a 60-44 win in Richmond, Va.
Last Time Out
Bowie State women's hoops picked up its fourth straight victory after topping the visiting Trojans of Virginia State (8-13, 4-7 CIAA, 1-4 North), 59-47 Saturday afternoon inside A.C. Jordan Arena. The win improved the Bulldogs to 12-8 overall, 8-3 in the CIAA and 4-1 in the Northern Division.
Junior
Jayla Irvin scored 22 points and sophomore
Anii Harris added 21 to lead the Bulldogs in scoring. Harris was named the Eastern Star Most Valuable Player, tacking on four rebounds, two steals, a block and a steal. Bowie State grabbed 38 rebounds in Saturday's game compared to Virginia State's 28, led by seven boards from sophomore
Saniha Jackson. The Bulldogs also cleaned up the offensive glass, turning 18 rebounds into 15 second chance points.
The Bulldogs forced 25 Trojan turnovers while committing 20 themselves. BSU turned those takeaways into 15 points on the other end of the floor. Irvin's two steals led the way for Bowie State.
CIAA Weekly Honors
Irvin and redshirt sophomore
Katerra Myers earned CIAA Weekly honors. Irvin was named this week's CIAA Player of the Week and Myers tabbed Defensive Player of the Week, both are firsts this season for Irvin and Myers.
Irvin led the Bulldogs in scoring in each of their two wins last week, averaging 17.5 points and 5.5 rebounds in victories over Virginia State and Shaw, the junior had a game-high 22 points versus the Trojans and 17 off the bench against the Bears. The Alexandria, Va., native added four boards, two steals, and an assist in the Virginia State game and tallied six rebounds and a steal against Shaw.
As for Myers, the Burtonsville, Md., native was part of a Bowie State defense that held VSU to 47 points and the Lady Bears to 60 points last week. On the road against SU in a 64-60 overtime win, the redshirt sophomore had 11 rebounds and a steal with four points and three assists. Additionally, Myers had five boards and a steal versus the Trojans.
Last Time against Shaw
Bowie State defeated Shaw in overtime, 64-60 on Jan. 25 led behind Irvin's 17 points and six rebounds off the bench. With 35 second left before overtime, BSU went on a 5-0 run to come away with the gritty win. Harris tacked on 16 points and two steals and junior

About the Lady Bears
Shaw enters Saturday's game on a four-game losing skid. The Lady Bears are coming off a 74-34 loss to rival Saint Augustine's on Wednesday. In the first quarter alone, SAU held a 26-8 scoring margin before taking a 42-14 lead at halftime. Growing pains continued for Shaw in the second half after being outscored 18-9 in the third quarter and 14-11 in the fourth. Tanayja London
led the Lady Bears (11-12, 4-7 CIAA) with 13 points, six rebounds and two steals in the matchup between crosstown rivals.
