Bulldogs Leave 14 on Base in 7-6 Loss to Goldey-Beacom, Split with the Lightning

BOWIE, MD -- 
Though they had plenty of opportunities, Bowie State struggled to cash them in, leaving 14 Bulldogs on base in a 7-6 setback at the hands of the Goldey-Beacom Lightning on Sunday at the BSU Softball Field. 

Senior Akirra Pullen (4-4) got the ball to start for Bowie State (13-9) and took the loss. Sophomore Lindsey George was a bright spot for the Bulldogs, starting the ballgame and throwing two scoreless innings, allowing one hit.

Pullen led the way offensively for the Bulldogs, going 2-for-5 in the ballgame with three RBI. Senior Shanya Gordon compiled a noteworthy effort as well, going 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI. George also chipped in, going 1-for-1 for Bowie State with two walks.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 6-0, the Bulldogs first put runs on the board in the third inning. Pullen's run-scoring single highlighted a two-run inning for Bowie State.

The Bulldogs kept the Lightning off the board before narrowing the gap further in the fourth. Bowie State picked up a pair of runs in the frame. which tightened the Lightning lead to 6-4.

Bowie State held the Lightning off the scoreboard before rallying to tie it up at six in the fifth. The Bulldogs scored twice, with one run coming across on sophomore Brittany Brewer's single. Goldey-Beacom then scored one time over the remaining two innings to break the tie and grab the 7-6 win.

GAME NOTES
» Bowie State's highest scoring inning was the fifth, when it pushed two runs across.
» Bowie State left 14 runners stranded on base in the loss.
» Sophomore Morgan Joseph stole two bases in Sunday's game.
» The Bulldogs stole five bases as a team.
» BSU pitchers faced 34 Goldey-Beacom hitters in the game, allowing five ground balls and 13 fly balls while striking out two.
» Pullen led the Bulldogs at the plate, going 2-for-5 with three RBI.
» Goldey-Beacom was led offensively by junior H. Davis, who went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
» Sophomore McLane led the Lightning pitching staff, throwing 4.1 innings of four-run ball.
