GAME 1 | Bowie State 10, Goldey-Beacom 2
BOWIE, Md. -- It was a difficult day for Goldey-Beacom pitchers, as the Bowie State Bulldogs tallied 10 runs en route to a 10-2 victory over the Lightning on Sunday afternoon during the opening game of the doubleheader at the BSU Softball Field.
Sophomore Lindsey George (3-4) started in the circle and picked up the win for Bowie State (13-8). The right-hander went two innings, giving up one run on one hit, allowing two walks and striking out three. Senior Akirra Pullen also made an impact in the circle for the Bulldogs, starting the ballgame and throwing three innings, giving up one run on three hits, with one walk and two strikeouts.
In the batter's box, the Bulldogs were paced by Pullen, who went 2-for-2 on the day with a walk and two RBI. Freshman Trinity Mizelle furnished a standout performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-2 with a walk and an RBI. George also contributed for Bowie State, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding a double and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bulldogs got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless. Bowie State got an RBI single from Pullen, scoring sophomore Kayla Evans from second base.
The Lightning then rallied to score two runs and take a 2-1 lead before the Bulldogs got back on the board in the fourth. Pullen's run-scoring single highlighted an inning where Bowie State scored twice, which brought the score to 3-2 in favor of the Bulldogs.
Bowie State kept Goldey-Beacom scoreless before building their lead to 10-2 the following inning. The Bulldogs bats heated up in the inning, scoring seven runs, including a two-run single off the bat of freshman Sydney Edmond. The score remained 10-2 for the rest of the game, as Bowie State coasted to the win.
