ELIZABETH CITY, NC --Sophomore Karen Fritzges was dealing on Thursday, tossing a two-hit shutout to lead the Bowie State Bulldogs over the Saint Augustine's Falcons 16-0.
Fritzges (4-1) went the distance for Bowie State (15-9, 2-0), giving up two hits, walking none and striking out three.
In the batter's box, the Bulldogs were paced by freshman Trinity Mizelle, who went 2-for-3 on the day with two doubles, a walk and three RBI. Senior Akirra Pullen put together a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with two RBI. Freshman Jahkya Watkins also helped out for Bowie State, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a double and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bulldogs took the lead for good in the first, scoring for the first time in the inning. Mizelle came across to score the lone run of the inning for Bowie State and get them on the board.
The Bulldogs then tacked on runs in the second, third, and fourth innings, with their biggest output coming in the third when they scored eight times. The big hit in that inning was a one-run single off the bat of sophomore Breanna Harvey.
