ELIZABETH CITY, NC -- Sophomore Lindsey George was mowing people down on Friday afternoon, fanning nine Claflin hitters over eight innings of work to help propel the Bowie State Bulldogs past the Panthers 5-1 day two of the Central Interocollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Round-Up at Sports Complex.
In addition to her nine strikeouts, George (4-4) tossed eight innings, giving up one run on three hits and walking two for Bowie State (17-9, 4-0 CIAA).
George led the way offensively for the Bulldogs, going 1-for-4 in the ballgame with a home run and two RBI. Sophomore Jayla Hill compiled a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Freshman Sydney Edmond also contributed, going 1-for-3 for Bowie State with a walk and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 1-0, the Bulldogs first put runs on the board in the fifth inning. Edmond came across to score the lone run of the inning for Bowie State and get them on the board.
The game remained tied until the eighth inning, when the Bulldogs got going again on offense. BSU's offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a two-run home run off the bat of George, which brought the score to 5-1 in favor of the Bulldogs. The score remained 5-1 for the rest of the game, as Bowie State coasted to the win.
