Bulldogs Roll to 11-0 Victory over Livingstone

ELIZABETH CITY, NC -- The Bowie State softball team simply dominated over the Lady Blue Bears of Livingstone Saturday afternoon, rolling to a 11-0 victory at the Sports Complex day three of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Round-Up.

Sophomore Karen Fritzges (6-1) went the distance for BSU (18-9, 5-0 CIAA), giving up three hits, walking three and striking out nine.

Sophomore Jayla Hill led the way offensively for the Bulldogs, going 2-for-4 in the ballgame with a double, a triple and two RBI. Sophomore Lindsey George put together a noteworthy performance as well, going 2-for-3 with two doubles. Junior Taylor Skinner also helped out, going 2-for-4 for Bowie State with an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bulldogs took the lead for good in the first, scoring for the first time in the inning. Bowie State scratched across a run off LC when Hill tripled in Skinner.

The Bulldogs then tacked on runs in four more innings, with their biggest output coming in the fifth when they scored three times.

GAME NOTES
» Fritzges tossed a three-hit shutout for the Bulldogs.
» Fritzges struck out nine Blue Bears hitters.
» The Bulldogs had both George and Hill smack multiple extra-base hits in the ballgame.
» Bowie State's highest scoring inning was the fifth, when it pushed three runs across.
» BSU took a 1-0 lead in the top half of the first and didn't surrender that lead for the remainder of the game.
» Four Bulldogs had multiple hits in the ballgame.
» The Bulldogs out-hit the Blue Bears at an 11-3 clip.
» Skinner stole two bases in Saturday's game.
» The Bulldogs stole seven bases as a team.
» Bowie State pitchers limited Livingstone to just 0-for-5 with runners in scoring position.
» BSU pitchers faced 22 Livingstone hitters in the game, allowing four ground balls and two fly balls while striking out nine.
» Hill led the Bulldogs at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and two RBI.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Mar. 30 for a non-conference doubleheader with Washington Adventist at 1 p.m. from the BSU Softball Field.
