Bulldogs Tab Fifth Shutout of the Season with Win over Fayetteville State

The victories put BSU 19-5 against Division II opponents this season

ELIZABETH CITY, NC -- The Bowie State softball team picked up its fifth shutout victory of the season with a 5-0 statement over the Lady Broncos of Fayetteville State to close out the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Round-Up a perfect 6-0 Saturday afternoon at Sports Complex. The victories put BSU 19-5 against Division II opponents this season.

Sophomore Lindsey George (5-4) went the distance for Bowie State (19-9, 6-0 CIAA) after hurling a three-hit in the shutout, giving up three hits, walking one and striking out five.

Offensively, the Bulldogs were paced by freshman Trinity Mizelle, who went 1-for-2 on the day with a double, a walk and two RBI. George compiled a standout day at the plate as well, going 1-for-2 with a double, a walk and an RBI. Freshman Alaysia Ross also helped out for Bowie State, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bulldogs took the lead for good in the third, scoring for the first time in the inning. BSU scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Mizelle.

Bowie State also added runs in the fourth and sixth innings on the way to the 5-0 victory.

GAME NOTES
» George tossed a three-hit shutout for the Bulldogs.
» George struck out five Broncos hitters.
» Bowie State's highest scoring inning was the third, when it pushed three runs across.
» The Bulldogs out-hit the Broncos at a 5-3 clip.
» Freshman Aseyah Alexander stole two bases in the game.
» Collectively, the Bulldogs stole five bases as a team.
» Bowie State pitchers faced 24 Fayetteville State hitters in the game, allowing nine ground balls and six fly balls while striking out five.
» Mizelle led the Bulldogs at the plate, going 1-for-2 with a double and two RBI.
