Bulldogs Put Up 11 Runs in Victory over Mansfield, Earn Split on the Day

GAME 2 | Bowie State 11, Mansfield (PA) 2

BOWIE, MD -- It was a difficult day for the Mansfield pitchers during the day's second game, as the Bowie State Bulldogs plated 11 runs en route to an 11-2 win over the Mountaineers on Sunday afternoon to earn the day's split.

Sophomore Karen Fritzges (1-0) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Bowie State (6-6). The right-hander went 5.1 shutout innings while giving up four hits, allowing one walk and striking out three.

In the batter's box, the Bulldogs were led by Fritzges, who went 2-for-5 on the day with a double and three RBI. Senior Shanya Gordon compiled a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-2 with a double, two walks and an RBI. Sophomore Sydney Edmond also contributed for Bowie State, putting together zero hits in one trip to the plate while adding three walks and two RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 2-0, the Bulldogs first put runs on the board in the first inning. Bowie State managed to push across two runs in the inning.

The score stayed at 2-2 until the fourth inning, when the Bulldogs put runs on the scoreboard once again. Bowie State managed to push across two runs in the inning, which brought the score to 4-2 in favor of the Bulldogs.

BSU kept the Mountaineers without a run before building their lead to 6-2 the following inning. The Bulldogs added two runs off of Mansfield pitching, punctuated by a run-scoring double off the bat of Gordon.

Bowie State held the Mountaineers without a run before their offense got in gear the next inning. The Bulldogs scored five runs in the inning, highlighted by a three-run double off the bat of Fritzges, bringing the score to 11-2 in favor of Bowie State. The score remained 11-2 for the rest of the game, as the Bulldogs coasted to the win.

GAME NOTES

» The Bulldogs out-hit the Mountaineers at a 6-4 clip.
