GAME 1 | Bowie State 10, Virginia Union 2
BOWIE, MD -- Sophomore Lindsey George had everything working on Saturday, fanning eight Virginia Union hitters over six innings of work to help power the Bowie State Bulldogs over the Lady Panthers, 10-2 at the BSU Softball Field during game one of two.
In addition to her eight strikeouts, George (8-5) tossed six innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on one hit and walking four for Bowie State (26-11, 9-0 CIAA).
In the batter's box, the Bulldogs were paced by sophomore Jayla Hill, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a home run, a walk and three RBI. Freshman Trinity Mizelle put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with a triple and three RBI. Sophomore Aliyah Smith also chipped in for BSU, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bulldogs got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom the first inning with the game still scoreless. Graduate senior Aseyah Alexander came across to score the lone run of the inning for Bowie State and get them on the board.
The Lady Panthers then rallied to score two runs and take a 2-1 lead before the Bulldogs got back on the board in the third. The Bowie State offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a two-run triple off the bat of Mizelle, which brought the score to 5-2 in favor of the Bulldogs.
BSU held Virginia Union without a run before building their lead to 9-2 the following inning. The Bulldogs bats heated up in the inning, scoring four runs, including a three-run home run off the bat of Hill.
Bowie State held the Lady Panthers scoreless before building on their lead in the sixth inning. Hill crossed home plate with the lone run of the inning for the Bulldogs, bringing the Bowie State advantage to 10-2. The score remained 10-2 for the rest of the game, as the Bulldogs coasted to the win.
