George's 9-Strikeout Showing Powers Bowie State Past Shaw 10-3, Bulldogs Sweep Lady Bears

RALEIGH, NC -- Sophomore Lindsey George was dominant on Friday afternoon, striking out nine Shaw hitters over seven innings of work to help lead the Bowie State Bulldogs over the Lady Bears 10-3 at Worthdale Park. The sweep marks the 12-straight win in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) action for Bowie State.

In addition to her nine strikeouts, George (10-5) went seven innings, giving up three runs, all of them earned, on five hits and walking four for Bowie State (30-11, 12-0 CIAA).

Sophomore Jayla Hill led the way offensively for the Bulldogs, going 3-for-4 in the ballgame with a triple, a home run and three RBI. Sophomore Brittany Brewer furnished a standout performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-3 with two RBI. Senior Akirra Pullen also chipped in, going 2-for-4 for Bowie State with two RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bulldogs were trailing 2-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Graduate senior Aseyah Alexander came across to score the lone run of the inning for Bowie State and get them on the board.

BSU kept the Lady Bears off the board before taking the lead in the third. Bowie State brought home a pair, with one run driven in by Pullen's single, which brought the Bulldogs lead to 3-2.

Shaw fired back to even the ballgame at three before Bowie State reclaimed a 5-3 advantage in the fifth inning. The Bulldogs added two to their tally on Hill's two-run homer to right.

Bowie State kept the Lady Bears scoreless before building on their lead in the seventh inning. The Bulldogs scored five runs in the inning, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of Brewer, bringing the score to 10-3 in favor of Bowie State. The score remained 10-3 for the rest of the game, as the Bulldogs coasted to the win.

GAME NOTES
» Hill had three base hits in the game for Bowie State.
» George struck out nine Bears hitters.
» The Bulldogs power output was led by Hill, who picked up two extra base hits in the ballgame.
» Bowie State's highest scoring inning was the seventh, when it pushed five runs across.

» Bowie State pitchers faced 29 Shaw hitters in the game, allowing five ground balls and five fly balls while striking out nine.
» Hill led the Bulldogs at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a triple, a home run and three RBI.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE
Bowie State will travel to Elizabeth City State Sunday, Apr. 23. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m. from the Sports Complex in Elizabeth City, N.C. Following Sunday's twinbill, BSU will return home to resume action with Virginia Union on Apr. 28 at 3 p.m. from the BSU softball field. The game was halted due to darkness back on Apr. 15, both teams were tied at 8-all heading into the bottom fifth inning. After the completion of the contest against VUU, Bowie State will await the official seeding of the CIAA Tournament with the Bulldogs more than likely hosting a quarterfinal matchup on campus.
