WHAT'S AT STAKE
Bowie State currently sits in first place with a 7-2 record in the Northern Division after the two setbacks at Elizabeth City State. Virginia Union is currently in fourth place in the North with a record of 3-6. A win for BSU will put the Bulldogs as the division leaders at 8-3 and possible share for the division title with Virginia State if they earn a sweep over Lincoln (PA)  - that doubleheader is expected to be played on Apr. 27 at 12 noon.

THE BULLDOGS
Bowie State is 30-13 overall and 13-2 in the CIAA action this season. BSU is coming off a sweep by the hands of Elizabeth City State Sunday, Apr. 23, the Bulldogs fell 12-6 and 9-7. In the first game, ECSU scored six runs in the first inning in which the Bulldogs had to play catchup. A boost from sophomore Jahkya Watkins' three hits, sophomore Lindsey George's 2-for-2 with two walks and an RBI as well as graduate senior Aseyah Alexander's a two hits in four trips to the plate while adding two RBI would not be enough to overcome the early deficit.

Alexander racked up four hits - the most for her in a game this season but the Bulldogs allowed two runs in the third that would allow the Lady Vikings to come away with the win and sweep in game two.

Despite the losses last timeout, the Bulldogs are a pretty good team at home this season with a 15-2 record.

CIAA WEEKLY HONORS
Bowie State had two players garner CIAA Weekly Honors announced by the league office Tuesday. Alexander was named the Offensive Player of the Week - her first this season while Goerge was named the CIAA's Pitcher of the Week - her first as pitcher but third overall weekly accolade for 2023.

Alexander, a native of Silver Spring, Md., averaged a .600 batting clip that included 15 at-bats. Alexander accounted for five runs, nine hits and four RBI for the week.

As for George, the Fayetteville, Ga., native was dominant on Friday, striking out nine Shaw hitters over seven innings of work to help lead the Bowie State Bulldogs over the Lady Bears 10-3 on the road. In addition to her nine strikeouts, George (10-5) went seven innings, giving up three runs, all of them earned, on five hits and walking four.

THE LADY PANTHERS
Since falling to the Bulldogs during game one of the doubleheader on Apr. 15 (10-2), VUU has put together a 2-2 record, sweeping Lincoln (PA) by the scores of 5-3, 13-9 but falling twice to Virginia State (8-4, 17-0). The Lady Panthers enter Thursday's 2.5 inning game with a 5-11 record on the road this season.

UPCOMING SCHEDULE
After the completion of the contest against VUU, Bowie State will await the official seeding of the CIAA Tournament with the Bulldogs more than likely hosting a quarterfinal matchup on campus.
