Bulldogs Close Out Regular Season with 13-8 Victory over Virginia Union

GAME 2 | Bowie State 13, Virginia Union 8

BOWIE, MD -- Bowie State received contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, helping the Bulldogs put 13 runs on the board and take down the Virginia Union Lady Panthers 13-8 Thursday afternoon at the BSU Softball Field. The win marked the 31st win for BSU this season, now a new program record for most wins while the Bulldogs conclude the regular season with a 14-2 mark against Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) opponents and 8-2 record in the Northern Division.

Senior Akirra Pullen (10-7) got the win for Bowie State (31-13). The right-hander went two innings, giving up three runs, all of them earned, on four hits, allowing one walk and striking out one. Sophomore Lindsey George started the ballgame to begin the bottom fifth and went three shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking none and striking out three.

In the batter's box, the Bulldogs were led by sophomore Jayla Hill, who went 3-for-5 on the day with a triple and three RBI. Sophomore Morgan Joseph put together a standout day at the dish as well, going 2-for-4 with a double, a triple and two RBI. George also chipped in for Bowie State, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding a double, two walks and two RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bulldogs scored in six different innings on the way to the win. After holding the lead three different times earlier in the ballgame, Bowie State broke an 8-8 tie and took the lead for good at 9-8 in the fifth inning The Bulldogs picked up one of their three runs on an RBI base knock off the bat of sophomore Brittany Brewer.

GAME NOTES
» Hill picked up three base hits in the game for Bowie State.
» The Bulldogs power output was led by Joseph, who had two extra base hits in the ballgame.
» Every Bowie State starter reached base safely in the win.
» Bowie State's highest scoring inning was the sixth, when it pushed three runs across.

» The Bulldogs out-hit the Panthers at a 14-7 clip.
» Sophomore Kayla Evans stole three bases and graduate senior Aseyah Alexander swiped two in Thursday's game.
» The Bulldogs stole seven bases as a team.
» BSU went 8-for-23 (.348) with runners in scoring position.
» Bowie State pitchers faced 33 Virginia Union hitters in the game, allowing six ground balls and eight fly balls while striking out six.
» The Bulldogs drew seven walks from Virginia Union pitching.
» Hill led the Bulldogs at the plate, going 3-for-5 with a triple and three RBI.
