GAME 1 | Bowie State 8, Salem (WV) 4
BOWIE, MD -- The Bowie State Bulldogs tallied eight runs en route to an 8-4 win over the Salem Tigers on Friday afternoon during the first of two games in non-conferenc action at the BSU Softball Field.
Senior Akirra Pullen (8-4) started in the circle and picked up the win for Bowie State (24-9). The right-hander went 4.1 innings, giving up three runs, all of them earned, on eight hits, allowing no walks and striking out one.
At the plate, the Bulldogs were paced by sophomore Lindsey George, who went 1-for-2 on the day with a home run, two walks and three RBI. Pullen put together a standout performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-2 with a home run and an RBI. Sophomore Karen Fritzges also contributed for Bowie State, putting together two hits in two trips to the plate while adding two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bulldogs put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the third inning. Bowie State hit two home runs in the inning on the way to scoring five runs.
The Tigers then gained ground, narrowing the lead to 5-3 until the Bulldogs expanded their advantage in the fifth. Bowie State pushed across a run on sophomore Aliyah Smith's two-out RBI double, which brought the Bulldogs lead to 6-3.
Bowie State kept Salem (WV) scoreless before expanding their lead to 8-3 the following inning. The Bulldogs added two runs when a single from Fritzges brought home freshman Tamia Hill and sophomore Kayla Evans. Salem (WV) put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Bowie State still coasted to the 8-4 win.
