RICHMOND, VA - The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) held its annual Spring General Assembly meeting and end-of-year awards reception in Richmond, VA. The conference office announced its highest administrative and team awards at the reception on Tuesday afternoon. The Bowie State University Athletics Department was recognized with the award of Most Positive Game Environment for the 2022-23 season.
Selected by members of the CIAA Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, the award is given to the school that exhibits good sportsmanship by student-athletes and coaches during both home and away contests. BSU home contests provided a hospitable atmosphere for visiting teams. Bowie State also includes coaching staffs that serve as positive role models and are respectful to officials and opposing coaches and athletes and holds their teams accountable to promote a welcoming atmosphere while treating teammates, opponents, coaches, officials, and spectators respectfully. Bowie State first received this award during the 2011-2012 athletic season and again in 2017-18.
The Positive Game Environment Award of Excellence recognizes athletics programs that have displayed a special commitment to creating competition environments that stress civility, cater to the comfort of fans and participants, and are exciting.
