BALTIMORE, MD -- The Bowie State volleyball team showed impressive resilience with a 3-2 victory against the Notre Dame (MD) Gators Saturday afternoon on the road at Marion Burt Knott Sports Complex.
The out-of-conference win improved Bowie State's overall record to 2-11 on the season. The win also snapped a five-match losing skid for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs attack was paced by Madyson Brinson, who finished with 14 kills on the day while accumulating a hitting percentage of .462, while Nina Edwards, who had 11 kills also posted a hitting percentage of .421. The Bulldogs got 19 digs from Tristynn Kerr along with seven blocks from Edwards to lead them defensively.

» BSU never trailed on the way to winning the fourth set 15-7.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Bulldogs grabbed control of the set-one lead at 5-4 and held the lead the rest of the way to win 25-22. Bowie State led by as many as five points at 10-5 before finishing off the set, totaling 15 kills along the way.
SET 2 | BSU lost the second set 25-21 to tie the match 1-1. Notre Dame (MD) grabbed the advantage for good at 15-14 in a set that was tied up six times before the Gators took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 3 | Bowie State fought back following the set-two loss to take set three and a 2-1 lead in the match. The Bulldogs survived a back-and-forth set to win 25-23 in a stanza that featured five lead changes and was tied 13 times. Neither team opened up a lead of more than three points along the way.
SET 4 | BSU couldn't finish off a four-set win as the Gators forced a fifth set with a 25-21 victory. Notre Dame (MD) grabbed the advantage for good at 13-12 and Bowie State was never able to recover in a set that was tied up six times before the Gators took over the lead.
SET 5 | Bowie State and Notre Dame (MD) went back and forth all game, trading set wins until the Bulldogs took the fifth set 15-7 and the match. The Bulldogs led from the first point on in the fifth set to secure the victory. BSU opened up as much as an eight point lead at 14-6 before closing out the set. The Bulldogs also supplemented their offense with three aces in the final set.
