ETTRICK, VA -- The Bowie State women's volleyball team lost to the Livingstone Lady Blue Bears in five sets (25-13, 17-25, 25-21, 23-25, 13-15) Saturday at Multipurpose Center during Day 1 of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Round-Up.
The loss dropped Bowie State's record to 2-14 overall and 0-3 in CIAA action.
Madyson Brinson finished with 14 kills on the day to lead the Bulldogs offense. The Bulldogs got 28 digs from Tristynn Kerr to lead them defensively.

» Ayana Johnson had a team-high four aces in the loss.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Bulldogs grabbed control of the set-one lead at 3-2 and held the lead the rest of the way to win 25-13. Bowie State opened up its biggest lead, 12 points, to close out the set. Bowie State also supplemented their offense with six aces in the opening set.
SET 2 | BSU lost set two 25-17 to even the match 1-1. Bowie State trailed by as many as eight points as Livingstone grabbed the advantage for good at 18-17 in a set that was knotted up 11 times before the Lady Blue Bears took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 3 | Bowie State put the second-set loss behind and took a 2-1 match lead with a victory in set three. Impressive serving helped the Bulldogs win the set 25-21. The Bulldogs recorded five aces in the win. After the lead changed hands five times, the Bulldogs took control for good at 20-19 and rode that advantage to victory. The Bowie State offense also got a boost from five aces in the stanza.
SET 4 | Bowie State couldn't finish off a four-set win as the Blue Bears forced a fifth set with a 25-23 victory. LC grabbed the advantage for good at 24-23 and Bowie State wasn't able to recover in a set that was tied up seven times before the Lady Blue Bears took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 5 | BSU and Livingstone went back and forth all game, trading wins in the first three sets until the Lady Blue Bears took the last two sets, including winning the fifth set 15-13, and the match. The Bulldogs fought back from a seven-point deficit at 9-2, but LC hung on to win the fifth set.

The Bulldogs will close out the CIAA Round-Up with a pair matches against Johnson C. Smith at 9 a.m., followed by Shaw at 3 p.m.
Looking Ahead
Bowie State will remain on the road on Oct. 5 and Oct. 9 when the Bulldogs visit Elizabeth City State and Virginia Union for 6 p.m. starts in division action.
