Men's Basketball Travels to Shaw Saturday

BOWIE, MD --- The Bowie State men's basketball team will travel to Raleigh, N.C. on Saturday, Jan. 13 as the Bulldogs look to snap a three game losing skid at Shaw for Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) cross division action inside C.C. Spaulding Gymnasium. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m.

The game will broadcast live on the Shaw Bears Sports Network.

The Series

Last Timeout for the Bulldogs 
BSU enters the weekend matchup at Shaw with a 6-11 overall record and 1-5 mark in the CIAA. The Bulldogs dropped a 71-69 decision at St. Augustine's a week ago which marked the third consecutive setback for Bowie State. Against the Falcons, the Bulldogs trailed 37-28 at halftime but managed to hold the 41-34 in the second frame. Despite the loss, BSU forced 19 SAU turnovers which led to 21 points on the other end as the Bulldogs shot nearly 54-percent from the 3-point line. Kyree Freeman-Davis led BSU in scoring with 20 points, followed by Kevon Corley who posted 13 points and Caleb Johnson with 12 points, nine rebounds, five assists and four steals. 

Corley Named CIAA Rookie of the Week
Freshman Kevon Corley was named the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Rookie of the Week for the third time this season as announced Monday afternoon by the league office. The Glenarden, Md., native averaged 3.6 points and .9 per game against St. Augustine's. Corley recorded 13 points and four rebounds on 5-of-11 shooting against the Falcons while against Fayetteville State, the 6-foot-6 forward tacked on five points and one assist. The freshman finished with 18 points for the week off the bench.

Last Outing for the Bears 
Shaw (7-6, 3-2 CIAA) dropped its last outing to the Elizabeth City State Vikings on the road, 71-65 on Tuesday. The Bears led three times in the first half but trailed for the remainder of the contest after facing a 37-30 at halftime. Ahmil Flowers led the Bears in scoring with 15 points on 5-of-11 shooting while D.J. Thomas added 14 points and three steals. Shaw is 3-0 at home this season.

Up Next
The Bulldogs will return home on Saturday, Jan. 20 when Bowie State hosts rival Lincoln (PA) for its division opener inside A.C. Jordan Arena. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
