Women’s Basketball Gets Back into CIAA Play at Fayetteville State

BOWIE, MD – The Bowie State women's basketball team (9-5, 3-1 CIAA) will get back into Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play as the Bulldogs travel to face Fayetteville State (10-1, 3-0 CIAA) on Thursday, Jan. 4 at 5:30 p.m. ET. 

The game will be streamed live on the Broncos Sports Network and available on the CIAA Sports Network and BSUBulldogs.com.

The History  

  • Bowie State leads the all-time series with a record of 26-21 against Fayetteville State since 1990.

Last Timeout 
The Bulldogs enter 2024 with a 9-5 overall record after erasing a 15-point deficit and going 6-for-6 from the field in overtime to take down Frostburg State, 89-80 on Sunday (Dec. 31). In the victory, five players scored in double digits led by Anii Harris with 22 points, four assists and three steals. Katerra Myers added 17 points and seven rebounds while Saniha Jackson also 11 points five rebounds and two steals. Jayla Irvin also contributed 10 points while Mia Smith chipped in 14 points and two steals off the bench.  

Bowie State has been led by Harris who averages 20.5 points per game which is also a conference best. She's fifth in the league for field goal percentage (47-percent) and steals (2.5) while Myers ranks top-10 in the league for rebounds (7.0 rbg) at sixth and free throw percentage (74-percent) at fourth individually. Additionally, Jackson is ninth in the CIAA for blocked shots with an average of .8.  

The Bulldogs are 3-1 in the CIAA with key wins over Winston-Salem State (58-38), Livingstone (68-61) and Claflin (62-58). 

About Fayetteville State  
The Lady Broncos (10-1) won their last game against the Davis & Elkins Senators 65-44 on Dec. 30. Morgan Graham led with 14 rebounds and 13 points, Aniyah Bryant chipped in 12 points and six rebounds while Amina Miles tacked on 10 points and five rebounds. Fayetteville State owns a 3-0 mark at home and currently are on a six-game winning streak entering Thursday's tilt with Bowie State.  

Amongst the CIAA, the Lady Broncos are third in scoring as a team averaging 69.8 points per game and hold its opponents to 59.5 points which is tied for a conference best. FSU is a very good rebounding team, leading the league in combined rebounds (43.9). Bryant owns the league's best average in steals (4.2) and is third in scoring (16.2) while Graham is the CIAA's leader in blocked shots (2.8) - she's second in rebounding (9.4) while Nyah Wilkins has the best free throw shooting percentage (83-percent).

Bowie State will remain on the road the next two games at St. Augustine's (Jan. 6) and Shaw (Jan. 13) for the HBCU Martin Luther King, Jr. Unity Invitational in South Carolina.
