BOWIE, MD --The Bowie State women's volleyball team showed notable determination defeating foe the Virginia Union Lady Panthers in a five set victory 3-2(25-22,25-21,24-26,25-17,15-12) Thursday at home inside the A.C. Jordan Arena.
The win moves the Bulldogs record to 5-13 overall and 2-4 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) play, while VUU drops to 5-13 overall and 2-4 in the league.
The Bulldogs were led by a double-double from Shaska Davis, who registered a season-high 11 kills and 10 digs on the day. Nina Edwards also added 11 kills to help the offense.Mekenna Scott also pitched in with seven in the contest. On the defensive end, Taylor Johnson chipped in a season-high 27 digs and Nicole Taylor recorded two blocks.

How It Happened
SET 1 | Pinpoint serving helped the Bulldogs grab the first set 25-22. Bowie State totaled five aces in the set victory. The Bulldogs rallied from down five at 7-2 to claim the win.
SET 2 | Bowie State took set two 25-21 to quickly take a 2-0 lead. The Bulldogs grabbed the advantage for good at 22-21 in a set that showcased four lead changes before the Bulldogs took over in the second half of the stanza. The Bowie State offense also got a boost from three aces in the stanza.
SET 3 | Virginia Union stayed alive with a third-set win to make it a 2-1 match. The Bulldogs couldn't endure a furious Virginia Union rally, losing 26-24 after leading by seven points at 15-8 earlier in the set.
SET 4 | Bowie State then dropped their second straight set 25-17 to brind the match level at two sets apiece. The Bulldogs trailed by as many as eight points as Virginia Union grabbed the advantage for good at 2-1 and Bowie State wasn't able to recover in a set that was tied up two times before the Panthers took over.
SET 5 | Bowie State needed five sets to seal the match win. After they won the first two sets, Virginia Union responded to take the third and fourth sets before the Bulldogs finished off their victory with a 15-12 fifth-set win. The Bulldogs grabbed the fifth set with the help of a solid performance on the attacking end. Bowie State put together a .316 attack percentage with nine kills in the set win. After the lead changed hands three times, the Bulldogs took control for good at 12-11 and rode that advantage to victory.

The Bulldogs will travel to Bluefield WV, on Monday Oct.14 at 6 p.m. to take on Bluefield State University in a CIAA match at Shutt Gymnasium.
