Bulldogs Fall in 4-Set Match to Bluefield State

BOWIE, MD--The Bowie State women's volleyball team couldn't overcome Centeral Intercollegiate Atheltic Association (CIAA) opponent the Bluefield State Lady Blues (9-12,6-0 CIAA) in four sets 3-1 (23-25, 22-25, 26-24, 15-25) Monday evening on the road inside the Ned Shott Gymnasium.

The loss dropped BSU record to 5-14 overall and 2-5 in CIAA play, while BLU improves to 9-12 overall and 6-0 in the league.

The Bulldogs attack was paced by Nina Edwards, who finished with 11 kills on the day while accumulating a hitting percentage of .5, while Iman Wright recorded 10 kills.Taylor Johnson lead the team defensively with 12 digs. 

Game Notes
» Mekenna Scott had a team-high one ace in the loss.
» Edwards had a team-high 11 kills for Bowie State.
» Bowie State got a match-high 12 digs from Johnson.
» Bowie State attackers were helped by a team-high 16 assists from Trinity Loundmon.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Bulldogs found themselves in an early hole, losing a tight first set 25-23. Bowie State trailed by as many as six points as Bluefield State grabbed the advantage for good at 23-22 in a set that was knotted up six times before the Lady Blues took over in the second half of the stanza.

SET 2 | Bowie State then dropped set two 25-22 to fall behind in the match two sets to none. Bluefield State grabbed the advantage for good at 18-17 in a set that was tied up three times before the Lady Blues took over in the second half of the stanza.

SET 3 | Bowie State rallied back to pull within two sets to one, winning their first set of the match in the third stanza. The Bulldogs came out on top of a close battle, winning 26-24 in a set that was tied nine times and had two lead changes.

SET 4 | Bowie State couldn't keep the rally going and lost in set four 25-15 to drop the match. The Bulldogs fell behind on the first point and fought from behind the rest of the way before falling in the set.
