Bulldogs Come Up Short In 38-17 Loss to Virginia State

ETTRICK, VA -- The Bowie State Bulldogs came up short in the 38-17 to Virginia State Trojans on the road at Rogers Stadium Saturday afternoon.

The Trojans improved to 3-3 on the year and 2-2 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association play, while the Bulldogs fall to 1-5 overall and 0-3 in conference matchups.

Micah Robinson totaled 33 yards to lead the Bulldogs ground attack in the game, picking up 4.1 yards per carry along the way. Robinson also tacked on 32 receiving yards. Curtis Murray also tacked on 31 yards and one touchdown on the ground.

Kevin Taylor's most prolific target in the ballgame was Joseph Towler, who caught two passes for 54 yards.

Jamal Jones showed out for BSU's defense, recording five tackles, two tackles for loss, two sacks, and one forced fumble. Christian Taylor added three tackles, two tackles for loss, and two sacks and Sadiq Salawu had eight tackles in the loss.

Bowie State's defense held up fairly well against the run, limiting Virginia State to 130 yards on the ground. The Bulldogs defense lived in Trojans' backfield all game, collecting four sacks and eight total tackles for loss.

How It Happened
VSU took a 24-0 lead, but BSU scored with 11:31 left in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 24-7. After the Trojans scored to extend its lead to 38-7, the Bulldogs got on the scoreboard again to narrow the deficit and make it a 38-10 game.

Bowie State got on the scoreboard again with 6:04 left in the fourth quarter to narrow the deficit to 38-17. Both teams played the rest of the game without scoring.
