Bulldogs Blow Out Bluefield State for Homecoming Game, 54-0

BOWIE, MD -- The Bowie State Bulldogs got a dominant shutout victory against Bluefield State 54-0 on Homecoming Saturday, their first shutout since 2021. Six different players scored touchdowns, led by two scores from Micah Robinson, as BSU cruised to the victory inside Bulldog Stadium.

The Bulldogs improved to 2-5 on the year and 1-3 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association play, while the Big Blues fell to 1-6 and 0-4.

Kevin Taylor led BSU's passing attack with 189 yards through the air, tossing three touchdowns and one interception. The signal caller also added 46 yards on the ground.

Robinson paced the Bulldogs rushing attack by accumulating 89 yards and one touchdown throughout the game, averaging 8.1 yards per carry. Robinson also tacked on 58 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Maximus Jones also added 62 yards and one touchdown on the ground, averaging 7.8 yards per carry.

Jamir Roberts reeled in three catches for 68 yards. Joseph Towler got in on the action in the passing game as well, hauling in two balls for 60 yards and one touchdown. The Bulldogs also got 55 yards receiving and one touchdown from Kyle Parker in the contest.

LaTreil Wimberly showed out for the Bowie State defense, totaling one recovered fumble. Michael Thompson III added three tackles, 1.0 TFL, and one sack and Sadiq Salawu had nine tackles, 2.5 TFL, and one sack in the win.

Both teams forced one turnover in Saturday's contest, with Bowie State turning that takeaway into seven points. Bowie State also had an outstanding day offensively, totaling 511 total yards, 264 on the ground and 247 through the air, while averaging 7.4 yards per play and out-gaining Bluefield State. Bowie State converted on 66.7 percent of third-down attempts going 10-for-15 on the day.

Bowie State's defense completely shut down Bluefield State's offense, giving up just 58 total yards. The Bulldogs kept Bluefield State under 100 yards on both the ground and through the air, allowing just 73 passing and -15 rushing yards.

Bowie State took care of business in the red zone, scoring five times on five trips inside Bluefield State's 20-yard line, picking up touchdowns on four of those trips.

How It Happened
Bowie State put up 54 points on eight different scoring plays. The Bulldogs got on the board first, taking the lead for good at 7-0 with 7:59 left in the first quarter. hit Robinson on a two-yard touchdown catch to cap a seven-play, 74-yard drive. The Bulldogs then rode that lead to victory, increasing their advantage by 47 points along the way.

Bowie State will remain home next week as they will face off against Virginia Union for a CIAA matchup on Saturday, Oct. 26, at 1 p.m. at Bulldogs Stadium in Bowie, MD. The contest is themed "Gold Rush" and Healthcare Appreciation Day.
