BOWIE, MD -- Bowie State put together a big 234-yard output on the ground, including 181 yards from Micah Robinson but fell 56-28 to Virginia Union Saturday afternoon in a Central Intercollegiate Athletics Association matchup at home inside Bulldog Stadium.
The Panthers improved to 6-2 on the year and 5-1 in Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association play, while the Bulldogs fell to 2-6 overall and 1-4 in conference matchups.
Kevin Taylor led BSU's passing attack with 98 yards through the air, tossing two touchdowns and one interception.
Robinson paced the Bulldogs rushing attack by accumulating 181 yards throughout the game, averaging 8.6 yards per carry. Maximus Jones also added 41 yards and one touchdown on the ground, averaging 4.6 yards per carry.
Joseph Towler reeled in five catches for 106 yards and one score. Micaleous Elder also got in on the action in the passing game, hauling in five catches for 73 yards and two touchdowns.
Odion Okojie showed out for the Bulldogs defense, collecting five tackles and one interception and Sadiq Salawu had nine tackles and 1.0 TFL in the loss.
How It Happened
After Virginia Union opened up a 28-0 lead, Bowie State put points on the scoreboard with 2:15 left in the second quarter to narrow the margin to 28-7.Virginia Union extended its lead to 42-7, but the Bulldogs responded with a touchdown to narrow the advantage to 42-13.
Bowie State scored again with 4:10 remaining in the third quarter to narrow the deficit to 42-21.Virginia Union scored to extend its lead to 49-21 before the Bulldogs scored again to close the gap and make it a 49-28 game. Bowie State didn't score again in the game and Virginia Union tacked on seven more points to finish off the scoring.
