Bulldogs Earn 3-Set Sweep Over Notre Dame (MD)

BOWIE, MD -- The Bowie State volleyball team got the job done in three sets (28-26, 25-15, 25-21) to defeat the Notre Dame (MD) Gators Thursday at home inside A.C. Jordan Arena.

The non-conference win improved Bowie State's overall record to 3-11 on the season and snapped a six-match losing skid while the Gators dip to 9-6 on the year.

Taylor Johnson finished with nine kills on the day to lead the Bulldogs attack while finishing with a hitting percentage of .32.  Additionally, Trinity Loundmon lead the team defensively with 10 digs.


Game Notes
» Jaide Holliday had a team-high three aces in the win.
» BSU served up five aces on the way to a second-set victory.
» Johnson had a match-high nine kills for Bowie State.
» Bowie State got a team-high 10 digs from Loundmon.
» BSU attackers were helped by a match-high 10 assists from Loundmon.


How It Happened

SET 1 | The Bulldogs survived a ferocious Notre Dame (MD) rally in the first set, holding on to win 28-26 after leading by 11 points at 19-8 earlier in the set. Bowie State also supplemented their offense with three aces in the opening set.

SET 2 | BSU won the second set 25-15 to promptly grab a 2-0 lead. The Bulldogs grabbed control of the set lead early on at 3-2 and held the lead the rest of the way. The Bulldogs led by as many as 11 points at 22-11 before closing out the set. The Bowie State offense also got a boost from five aces in the stanza.

SET 3 | Bowie State took the third set to earn a victory by sweep. The Bulldogs the set set three 25-21. BSU took the lead for good at 9-8 in a set that had just one lead change before the Bulldogs took over the lead.

Bowie State will travel on Saturday, Oct 5-6 to Winston-Salem NC, for the CIAA Round-Up.The Bulldogs will take on Fayetteville State University at 4 p.m. on Saturday, (Oct.5), followed by Livingstone College and Shaw University on Sunday (Oct.6) at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
