WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Bowie State women's volleyball team earned a 3-1 (25-11, 20-25, 25-12, 25-12) over Livingstone but fell to Fayetteville State, 3-1 (25-22, 22-25, 16-25, 25-27) as the Bulldogs (4-12,1-4 CIAA) split day one of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Round-Up at Whitaker Gymnasium.
GAME 1 | Bowie State, 3 - Livingstone, 1
Nina Edwards recorded 14 kills with a .65 hitting percentage to help power BSU to a four-set win (25-11, 20-25, 25-12, 25-12) against the Lady Blue Bears. Edwards finished with 14 kills on the day to lead the Bulldog's attack while finishing with a hitting percentage of .65. The Bulldogs got 10 digs from Taylor Johnson along with six blocks from Edwards and five rejections from Madyson Brinson to lead them defensively.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Bulldogs won the first point and never looked back to win the first set 25-11. Bowie State opened up its biggest lead, 14 points, to finish off the set. BSU also supplemented their offense with four aces in the opening set.
SET 2 | Bowie State fell in set two 25-20 to tie the match 1-1. Livingstone grabbed the advantage for good at 3-2 in a set that was tied up four times before the Blue Bears took over the lead.
SET 3 | BSU fired back following the set-two loss to grab set three and a 2-1 lead in the match. The Bulldogs took the set 25-12 propelled by a strong showing on the attacking end. Bowie State put together a .529 attack percentage with nine kills in the set win. The Bulldogs ended on a strong note, stretching their lead to its largest point in the set to finish out the stanza. The Bowie State offense also got a boost from four aces in the stanza. Bowie State's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking four Livingstone attacks in the stanza.
SET 4 | Bowie State kept the momentum going, claiming the match win with a 25-12 set-four victory. The Bulldogs grabbed control of the set at 4-3 and held the lead the rest of the way. BSU ended the stanza on a high note by opening up its biggest lead, 13 points, to close out the set. Bowie State got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked four Livingstone attacks in the stanza.
GAME 2 | Fayetteville State, 3 - Bowie State, 1
Bowie State won the first set, but couldn't hold on and lost the next three against Fayetteville State, 3-1 (25-22, 22-25, 16-25, 25-27) in the nightcap. Brinson finished with 12 kills on the day to lead the Bulldogs attack. Defensively, BSU had three players reach double figures in digs, including Johnson's 22, 15 from Loundmon, and 10 more from Shaska Davis. From the front row, Edwards contributed five blocks.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Bulldogs opened up an early one-set-to-none lead, winning the first set 25-22. Bowie State never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 12-11 after erasing a two-point deficit, the Broncos largest lead of the set. This came in a set that featured nine ties and six lead changes.
SET 2 | BSU lost set two 25-22 to tie the match 1-1. The Bulldogs couldn't endure a furious FSU rally in the second set, losing after leading by seven points at 8-1 earlier in the set.
SET 3 | A set-three loss put Bowie State down 2-1. The Bulldogs lost a tough set 25-16. BSU trailed by as many as 13 points as the Broncos grabbed the advantage for good at 4-3 in a set that was knotted up just once before FSU took over the lead.
SET 4 | BSU lost the fourth set and the match, falling 27-25. The Bulldogs came up short in a back-and-forth set, losing in a stanza that featured seven lead changes and was tied 14 times. Neither team opened up a lead of more than four points along the way.
