RICHMOND, VA --The Bowie State women's volleyball team knocked off Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) foe Virginia Union Panthers (7-17, 4-7 CIAA) in five sets (21-25, 25-23, 21-25, 25-15, 23-21) Thursday on the road at Barco-Stevens Hall.
The conference win closes the season series, with the Bulldogs finishing 2-0. BSU improves their record to 9-17 overall and 6-6 in CIAA play,while VUU drops to 7-17 overall and 4-7 in the league.
The Bulldogs were led by a double-double from Shaska Davis, who registered a season-high 18 kills and 12 digs on the day. Nicole Taylor also added 16 kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Taylor Johnson chipped in with 22 digs, while Jaide Holliday finished with four blocks.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Bulldogs found themselves in an early deficit, dropping the first set 25-21. Bowie State trailed by as many as seven points as Virginia Union never surrendered the lead in a set that was knotted up zero times before the Panthers took control.
SET 2 | Bowie State responded to pick up a 25-23 victory in set two, evening the match at one set apiece. The Bulldogs persevered in a back-and-forth set to win in a stanza that featured two lead changes and was tied eight times. Neither team led by more than three points along the way.
SET 3 | Virginia Union went up 2-1 after taking down the Bulldogs in set three. The Bulldogs couldn't endure a furious Virginia Union rally, losing 25-21 after leading by eight points at 10-2 earlier in the set.
SET 4 | Bowie State then responded to win the fourth set 25-15 to force a fifth set. The Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead and never looked back in the set to earn the victory. Bowie State opened up as much as an 11 point lead at 22-11 before finishing off the stanza, totaling 16 kills in the set. Bowie State also supplemented their offense with three aces in the set.
SET 5 | Down two sets to one, Bowie State powered back to win sets four and five, culminating in a 23-21 fifth-set victory, to take the match 3-2. The Bulldogs took set five and the game despite trailing by five points at 11-6 before fighting back to secure the victory. Bowie State jumped in front at 22-21 and hung on to take the set, totaling 17 kills in the process.

The Bulldogs will return home for their home finale and senior day against Bluefield University Monday, Nov.4 at 6 p.m. inside the A.C. Jordan Arena. BSU will recognize seniors Jaide Holliday, Shaska Davis, and Nicole Taylor.
