Bulldogs Fall 3-1 to Virginia State in Season Finale

PETERSBURG, VA --The Bowie State women's volleyball team won the first set, but couldn't hang on and fell 3-1 (25-15, 17-25, 21-25, 26-28) to Central Intercollegiate Athelthic Association foe the Virginia State Trojans (15-7, 13-3 CIAA) in regular season finale Thursday on the road inside VSU Multipurpose Center.

The loss drops BSU's record to 10-19 overall and 7-9 in CIAA action, while VSU improves to 15-7 overall and 13-3 in the conference. 

The Bulldogs were led by a double-double from Iman Wright, who registered a season-high 17 kills and 10 digs on the day. Madyson Brinson also added six kills to help the attack. On the defensive end, Taylor Johnson chipped in with 20 digs, while Nadira Avery finished with three blocks.

» Bowie State had three players in double figures in digs.
» Jaide Holliday had a season-high four aces in the loss.
» Wright registered a double-double with 17 kills and 10 digs
» Wright had a match-high 17 kills for Bowie State.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Bulldogs cruised to an early lead, methodically winning the first set 25-15. Bowie State never trailed by more than five points and grabbed the advantage for good at 8-7 in a set that showcased three lead changes before the Bulldogs took over the lead. Bowie State also supplemented their offense with four aces in the opening set.

SET 2 | Bowie State then fell in the second set 25-17, tying the match at a set apiece. Bowie State trailed by as many as eight points as Virginia State grabbed the advantage for good at 3-2 in a set that was knotted up two times before the Trojans took over the lead.

SET 3 | Bowie State then lost their second set in a row, falling behind in the match two sets to one. The Bulldogs came up short by the score of 25-21. Bowie State trailed by as many as six points as Virginia State grabbed the advantage for good at 13-12 in a set that was knotted up five times before the Trojans took over the lead.

SET 4 | Bowie State lost the fourth set and the match, falling 28-26. The Bulldogs dropped a back-and-forth set, losing in a stanza that featured 10 lead changes and was tied 19 times. Neither team opened up a lead of more than four points along the way.
