Bowie State Gearing Up for CIAA/SIAC HBCU Softball Challenge

BOWIE, MD --- Bowie State University softball gears up for a trip to the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) and Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) HBCU Softball Challenge this weekend beginning Friday, Feb. 16 through Sunday, Feb. 18. The three-day challenge will be played at Tyger River Park located at 179 Dillard Road, Duncan, S.C. 29334.

Friday, Feb. 16 vs. Albany State at 7:30 p.m. | Field 3
Saturday, Feb. 17 vs. Kentucky State at 12:30 p.m. | Field 2
Saturday, Feb. 17 vs. Miles at 5:30 p.m. | Field 3
Sunday, Feb. 18 vs. Edward Waters at 12:30 p.m. | Field 2
Sunday, Feb. 18 vs. Tuskegee at 3 p.m. | Field 3

Bowie State Quick Hits
  • Head Coach Ed Powell enters his fourth season leading the Bulldogs after winning his first conference championship at BSU in 2023.
  • Powell guided the Bulldogs to a 35-16 record and 14-2 mark in the CIAA on its way to a division and conference championship, followed by an NCAA appearance.
  • Bowie State is led by three returning All-Conference players in pitcher and CIAA Player of the Year Lindsey George, All-CIAA utility player Akirra Pullen, and All-CIAA outfielder Jayla Hill. 
  • The Bulldogs welcome back veteran second baseman Saniya Jones who earned All-CIAA accolades in 2022.
  • Bowie State was picked fifth in the 2024 CIAA Preseason Poll and third in the Northern Division.
  • George, Pullen and Hill were all named to the Preseason All-Conference list.
Last Time Out
The Bulldogs opened the 2024 slate last weekend at Morgan State on Feb. 10. Bowie State suffered a 6-1 and 9-1 loss the Lady Bears. Notable highlights featured Taylor Dawkins going 2-3 with a double in the opener while Pullen suffered the loss in the circle while in game two, the Bulldogs were led by Coreena Dunham with a triple on a 2-3 performance at the plate, followed by a Sydney Edmond putting together a standout performance as well, going 1-for-2 with an RBI. George suffered the loss in the circle to conclude the nightcap.

Next 
Following the CIAA/SIAC Challenge, Bowie State will travel to Washington, D.C. to take on Howard on Wednesday, Feb. 21 at 12 noon.
