SPARTANBURG, SC -- Presliegh Braxton collected four RBIs to help lead the Bowie State Bulldogs (2-2) past the Winston-Salem State Rams 13-3 on Saturday in non-conference action day two of the HBCU Softball Challenge at Tyger River Park.
Braxton went 1-for-4 with a double and a walk in addition to her four RBIs for the Bulldogs. Sydney Edmond put together a standout effort as well, going 1-for-5 with a triple and three RBI. Adrianna Dockett also chipped in for Bowie State, putting together three hits in four trips to the plate while adding a double and two RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bulldogs got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Bowie State put together a three-run frame, culminating in a run-scoring single from A. Smith.
The Rams failed to push any runs across before the Bulldogs built on their lead in the third inning. Dockett's run-scoring single highlighted an inning where Bowie State scored twice, which brought the Bulldogs lead to 5-0.
WSSU narrowed Bowie State's lead to 5-1 before the Bulldogs stretched the advantage to 6-1 in the fifth inning.
BSU kept the Rams scoreless before their offense got things moving the next inning. The Bulldogs scored seven runs in the inning, highlighted by a three-run double off the bat of Braxton and a two-run error from Edmond, bringing the Bowie State advantage to 13-1. Winston-Salem State put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Bulldogs still coasted to the 13-3 win.
