GAME 1 | Howard 2, Bowie State 1

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- It was a nailbiter on Wednesday afternoon, as the Bowie State Bulldogs softball team came up one run short of victory, losing to the Howard Bison 2-1 at the National Youth Academy. Game two will start at approximately 2 p.m.

Akirra Pullen (1-3) got the ball to start for Bowie State (3-4) and took the loss. The right-hander went six innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on six hits, allowing one walk and striking out three.

Coreena Dunham led the way offensively for the Bulldogs, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame with a triple. Aliyah Smith put together a standout effort as well, going 1-for-3 with a double.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bulldogs got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the top of the first inning. Dunham came across to score the lone run of the inning for BSU and get them on the board. The Bulldogs were unable to hold the lead, as Howard scored two times over the remaining six innings to grab the 2-1 win.

GAME NOTES

» BSU's highest scoring inning was the first, when it pushed one run across.
» Bowie State pitchers limited Howard to just 1-for-5 (.200) with runners in scoring position.
» The Bulldogs pitchers faced 26 Howard hitters in the game, allowing 12 ground balls and two fly balls while striking out three.
» Dunham led the Bulldogs at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a triple.
