BOWIE, MD -- The Bowie State softball team will travel to Murfreesboro, N.C. to compete in the Chowan Classic hosted by the Hawks Friday, Mar. 1 through Saturday, Mar. 2 on the campus of Chowan.
About Bowie State
The Bulldogs enter the classic with a 4-7 record, coming off a split with Delaware State, 5-1 and 10-1 last weekend. During the win in the opening game, Bowie State combined for 11 hits led by
Jayla Hill who recorded a game-high four hits and one run while
Akirra Pullen chipped in three hits, one run scored and RBI.
Aliyah Smith posted a game-high two RBI while Pullen got the win in the circle, allowing five hits and striking out one in 2.2 innings pitched. Meanwhile the second game against the Hornets, the Bulldogs gave up four runs in the second and two in the third and was never able to pull within in striking distance. Four different BSU athletes recorded a hit highlighted by a double from
Jahkya Watkins.
Lindsey George suffered the loss, giving up four hits and five runs in 1.1 innings pitched.
Sydney Edmond has the team's top hitting percentage at .438 and hits (14) followed by Pullen (.333 and 10) and Dunham (.310 and nine). Defensively, Smith has a team-high of 62 putouts, while Edmond has 15 assists and double plays (2). The pitching unit is led by Pullen who has an ERA of 4.50 and 20 strikeouts.
