BOWIE, MD --- Bowie State softball has picked up another set of weekly honors announced by the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) conference office Tuesday afternoon.
Jayla Hill was named the CIAA Defensive Player of the Week and
Taylor Dawkins was named the CIAA Rookie of the Week. The accolades are Hill's second of the season and Dawkins first.
A native of Ruther Glen, Va., Hill tallied 12 catches, 11 putouts and one assist in the Bulldogs doubleheaders matchups against Millersville and Bloomsburg last weekend. Hill was perfect fielding against the Hilltoppers and Huskies. Her fielding percentage is currently .949 for the season.
As for Dawkins, the Ridgely, Md., native connected on her first career homerun Saturday against Bloomsburg, she went 1-for-1 from the plate in a  major way, gathering an RBI. Defensively, she plays multiple positions, including in the circle but she shined last weekend at the shortstop position, producing 3 catches and 3 assists for fielding percentage of 1.000.
