ELIZABETH CITY, NC -- Bowie State softball team threw two shutouts on day two of the Central Intercollegiate Athletics Association (CIAA) Round-Up against Livingstone College 15-0, and Shaw University 5-0 on Tuesday afternoon.
GAME 1 | Livingstone 0, Bowie State 15
Akirra Pullen, Taylor Dawkins and Karen Fritzges combined to throw a shutout on Tuesday as the Bulldogs (8-16, 3-0) blanked the Blue Bears (4-9, 0-3) 15-0.
Pullen (4-8) started and picked up the win for BSU going two shutout innings without giving up a hit, walking none, and striking out four. Dawkins was dealing out of the bullpen as well, going two shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking none, and striking out three. Fritzges closed out the game by picking up two strikeouts and allowing one hit.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bulldogs took the lead for good in the first, scoring for the first time in the inning. BSU hit two home runs in the inning on the way to scoring four runs.
The Bulldogs then tacked on runs in the second, third, and fifth innings, with their biggest output coming in the second when they scored five times. The big hit in that inning was a one-run single off the bat of Saniya Jones.

Lindsey George was dealing on Tuesday, tossing a five-hit shutout to lead the Bulldogs (9-16, 4-0) past the Bears (3-10, 0-3) 5-0.
George (4-7) went the distance for BSU, giving up five hits, walking none, and setting a career-high in strikeouts with 13.
At the plate, the Bulldogs were led by George, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a double and two RBI. Sydney Edmond put together a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI. Coreena Dunham also contributed for BSU, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bulldogs took the lead for good in the first, scoring for the first time in the inning. BSU pushed across two runs in the frame, the big blow coming on an RBI double from George.
The Bulldogs also added runs in the second, third, and fifth innings on the way to the 5-0 victory.
